What is it and why is it used?

The Start-Stop system is a solution that automatically turns off the engine when stationary (e.g. at traffic lights or in a traffic jam) and starts it again when the vehicle starts moving. With this system, car manufacturers try to reduce fuel consumption and reduce exhaust emissions. Although these benefits are indisputable, frequent switching off and restarting of the engine can affect driving comfort and in some cases cause delays in the vehicle's response.
